Ferbane AC’s McKeigue came home in a time of 26.47, an impressive run despite horrific weather conditions which saw the 79 competitors peppered with rain and hail throughout.

Galway City Harriers runner Regina Casey, the Shrule native who lives in The Neale, Ballinrobe, made a successful return from a recent injury to triumph in the ladies section in a time of 31.05.

John and Martina Cummins were the first male and female walkers home. Niamh Delargy and Eoghan Dolan were the first girl and boy over the line.

The organisers would like to thank all who took part, plus marshals and sponsors. “Conditions were testing for everyone, but there was a great sense of camaraderie and this made the day a huge success,” said a spokesperson.

The proceeds from the race went to Ballinrobe Town FC, who provide football for males and females of all ages.
