BELMULLET athlete Andrew Lynskey, in his first season in the green and red of Mayo AC, was the winner of the Mount Gable 10k in Co. Galway on Sunday last, May 3rd, writes Liam Horan.

The gruelling run saw competitors tackle some big climbs on the re-opened ‘old road’ between Cornamona and Clonbur in north Connemara.

This course has just recently been restored and this was the first race held on it. The consensus was that while it was a tough course, it was extremely rewarding for all who rose to its challenge.

Andrew was first home in 37:12, with Anto Devanney second in 37:55. Third was Brian O’Connor on 38:32.

Regina Casey of Galway City Harriers won the women’s race in a time of 41:52. Gwen Daly (49:10) and Niamh Broderick (50:55) were second anthird respectively.
