The latest addition to the sporting infrastructure of Co. Cavan is all set to be unveiled this Saturday, July 4^th, when the new state-of-the-art facility constructed by Shercock Athletic Club opens for competition.

The final preparations are underway for the opening of the new athletic track in Shercock, Co. Cavan. The occasion will be marked by the holding of the annual Garda Open Sports which is open to all.

To mark the occasion the Cavan-Monaghan Garda Open Sports – the largest event of its kind to be held in the region – will take place on the new tartan track commencing at 2pm.

The new synthetic track, which also includes facilities for field events, has been built in record time on the foundations of the town’s old cinder track, which was originally constructed in 2000.

The opening of the new tartan track in Shercock heralds a new era in the development of the sport of athletics in Cavan as local athletes can now look forward to preparing for national and international competitions on the most modern surface available anywhere in the country.

The Garda Open Sports, which is open to all and provides a wide range of events for children under seven all the way up to seniors and masters, will provide a great opportunity to come and view the impressive facility on Saturday
