With the times that are in it, RTE apparently couldn’t afford to carry any substantial coverage of the recent World Athletics Championships in Berlin and most had to rely on the BBC coverage to see the Irish stars in action writes The Extra Miler.

For Irish athletics fans this was a great shame, as we had sent one of our strongest and most ambitious teams for many years to these championships. It would perhaps be unfair of anyone to expect RTE to be able to compete on an equal basis with huge media organisations like the BBC, but it will be interesting to observe the reaction amongst our GAA following brethren should coverage of the football or hurling championships be shelved, or even reduced, due to budgetary constraints.
