The Donadea running club are proud to announce their 2nd annual 10k Forest Run this October 10th, 2009, in Aid of ‘The Little Way’ cancer support centre in Clane.

Action from the 2008 Donadea race
Leading the way on the day at this year’s event will be Ms Josephine Cawley, founding member of the Donadea running club in July 2007. Since its inception, the club has grown from strength to strength and it’s through her dedication, encouragement and motivation to “get out whatever the weather”, that the club now boasts over 45 enthusiastic members and growing.
The club meet on Tuesdays at 7.15pm at Staplestown GAA Club, and on a Saturday morning at 10.15 in the Donadea forest. In fact, it is running in this idyllic and peaceful environment that the idea to set up such a charity event came about.
Having participated in similar events in the UK, Jo found it “a great way, not only of bringing the community together, and keeping fit while having fun, but also of being able to give something back.”
She said: “Our main aim is to bring as many people together, from varied walks of life, and diverse running abilities, to run in aid of a different charity each year. By getting the community, and people from the surrounding areas involved, means we can get the necessary help to support such charities, ensuring the event’s growth, thus benefiting everyone”.
This year the club is delighted to be associated with/running in aid of ‘The Little way’ cancer support centre in Clane, Co Kildare.
Set up by Evelyn Mckee in 2003, as a way of providing emotional support and practical help to people who have or have had cancer, and their family and friends. All the services provided by the centre, ranging from, support groups, complementary therapies and one to one counselling, to name but a few, are provided free of charge.
As Evelyn says: “It’s about working in the community for the community.”
A second centre in Athy, and an outreach programme at Royston social club Newbridge, Co. Kildare, was opened in 2008. “Cancer certainly knows no cutbacks or recession and like all new ventures funding is a major issue,” says Evelyn

Does anyone know this course? Is it manageable for a beginner? Be interested to hear
Yes, this course would be fine for a beginner. The first 3 kms are on tarmac, with one relatively gentle incline. You then go into the forest circuit itself running on the type of track that you can see in the photo above. It’s a very scenic route that’ll be well signposted & taped off so it’s a doddle to follow. Around 4.5kms you’ll come to another pair of inclines, (honestly you couldn’t call them hills!), which you’ll see again as you loop around for the 8-9km marker. Apart from that the route is flat. Go online to http://www.donadearunningclub.com and you can download a course map / aerial photo of the route. Hope you give it a go, good luck!
Admin asks if it is suitable for a beginner – Donadea is a lovely forest and last year I notes a number of Mums with strollers who were walking the entire route… I am a slower competitor and I found that the course was very inviting, and if you are a beginner I would thoroughly recomend this race!
Donadea Forest Race is ideal for all types of runners, both beginners and people who wish to get a new PB. The course is nearly flat, only some minor inclines, and it’s a lovely forest. I did it today for the 2nd time. It’s great to see friends running together, helping and encouraging each other.
Anyone got any pix from today? Should be some nice shots.
pitures on racepix365.com and on Flicker
The run was a great success. A total of 635 registered and 523 runners took part on the day. Mike Coyle was the first male home in a time of 34.10 and Pauline Curley was first female in 36.08. We will have more details and pix here on the site in the next day or so.
