How many times have you heard a song playing on the radio and not known who the artist is? You wait until the end of the song and instead of hearing the DJ it goes straight into another track, or worse…the ads! A new iPhone application is about to change all that.
A Galway-based company has spent the last two years developing the Grab Radio application. It allows the listener to hear a song they like and to ‘grab’ it on the spot, purchasing it from iTunes. No more head scratching at your laptop trying to remember the song you heard earlier on the radio, Grab Radio allows you to break free from your PC. The app links directly with iTunes and allows you to preview and purchase the song or the album directly.
If you don’t want to buy it straight away, you can ‘tag’ the song for later. Listeners can build up a tagged song collection which is stored on their iPhone and they can use it for reference or buy the songs they have tagged later on.
This application brings a visual element to Irish radio stations allowing them to communicate more effectively with their listenership. The application boasts an interactive map feature, allowing listeners to see what local stations are available. It also offers an ability to interact with radio stations, by giving the stations feedback on their programmes by selecting the thumbs up/thumbs down tabs.
On the back of sales figures for the Apple iPhone of 30 million worldwide, the application market is growing all the time. Recently the iPhone application download reached the two billion figure. It is a growing market and one that Grab Radio CEO Aonghus O’hEocha is looking to monopolise on ‘We have developed a unique and high quality product, we are confident that the Irish people will respond well to this.’
The news that Vodafone is to launch the iPhone in the Irish market next year is music to Grab Radio’s ears . “I’m delighted to see more competition in the market place for iPhones, the more competition in the market, the better for the consumers,” O’hEocha commented.
The Grab Radio application will be available from the Apple iTunes or from their website www.grabradioworld.com . The Grab Radio application is available for Apple iPhones and Apple iTouch.
