Details of this year’s KBC Asset Management St. Patrick’s 5K Festival Road Race have been announced. The event will take place in Dublin on Sunday, March 14th, beginning at 12 noon from the Mansion House where it will be officially started by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr. Emer Costello. From there it will follow a route through Georgian Dublin returning again to the finish line at the Mansion House.
This is the fifth year of the event which is being held as part of the St. Patrick’s Festival Week and the first city street race in a year when Dublin celebrates its status as European Capital of Sport. Open to elite athletes and fun runners alike, it is hoped that some 5,000 runners will take part.
Race director is Ireland’s former World 5,000 metres champion Eamonn Coghlan, whose late father Bill was instrumental in establishing the event some years ago. It is being hosted by Metropolitan Harriers & St. Brigid’s Athletic Club in association with Dublin City Council.
A generous prize fund has been set aside which includes a first prize of €1,000 for both senior men and women winners with prizes of €500, €250 and €100 going to 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers in both categories.
Souvenir T-shirts and ‘goodie bags’ will be given to the first 2,000 entries received.
Registration can be made on-line at www.patricksrun.com or by post to Mary Friel, Hon. Secretary, MSB5K, Unit 2, Coolport, Coolmine Business Park, Dublin 15.

An entry fee of €15 applies to all entries received before March 8th. Late entries will also be taken up to 11am on the day for a fee of €20 with a reduced rate for families.
