National and international successes for Dunleer AC

Dunleer Athletic Club athlete Tomas Cotter won gold in the National USA Junior Colleges Championships in Illinois on Saturday. Running in the mile event Tomas running for his college Iowa CC won in a sprint for the line in 4.16.29 just beating the favourite Stephen Sambu from Rend Lake in 2nd 4.16.77 with George Alex Paradise Valley in 3rd 4.16.90. Tomas was thrilled with his win and all at Dunleer AC congratulate him.

Geraldine Finegan, Dunleer AC’s top female athlete, produced numerous outstanding performances in the World Veterans Athletic Championships in Vancouver Canada winning the pentathlon and javelin events last week.

Meanwhile Dunleer Athletic Club athlete Martin Quinn had a top class run to finish 12th in the National senior Cross Country in the Phoenix Park on Sunday. Martin covered the 12k in 36.08. The race was won by Mark Kenneally Clonliffe Harriers winning his first national senior title.

Dunleer AC athletes will compete for their schools in Cork next Saturday in the All Ireland Schools’ 2010 Cross Country Championship. The senior boys team representing St. Joseph’s CBS in Drogheda will fly their school flag, while Aaron Hanlon will represent St. Mary’s Diocesan in Drogheda in the junior boys’ event. These talented athletes are fresh from Rás na hÉireann success where they dominated the junior men’s events and all at Dunleer AC wish them well.
