Chevrolet introduced the 2016 Malibu recently. This mid-sized sedan is re-styled to achieve greater efficiency and to provide advanced safety features.
The new technology incorporated to Malibu is taken from the Chevrolet Volt. The hybrid-power train is capable of producing 48 mpg in city, 45 mpg in highway and 47 mpg when combined according to the estimation given by GM. This will be the benchmark for the mid- sized sedan section. The standard 1.5 L turbo power engine of Malibu is projected to achieve 37mpg in highway driving conditions.
The space availability is more in 2016 Malibu and it is 300 pounds lighter than the present model. The increased length gives more interior space. The wheelbase is stretched by four inches.
Jesse Ortega, the chief engineer of Malibu said that the mid-size customers demand great fuel economy, better technology and a gorgeous exterior and the new Malibu are engineered to fulfill these demands.
The standard engine in 2016 Malibu is the Ecotec 1.5 L turbo. This is the new small displacement gas engine designed to deliver better performance along with excellent efficiency.
The new Malibu 1.5 L turbo uses the same start and stop technology introduced in 2014. This technology enhances the efficiency while stopping the engine and driving. The models with 1.5 L will have features such as grille shutters that will actively reduce the aerodynamic drag which will help to optimize the fuel efficiency.
The styling is greatly influenced by 2014 Impala; the new Malibu improves the design language of Global design by Chevrolet. The slim design, sweeping headlamps and the progressive dual-port grille adds style. The body –side creases adds contemporary look to the Chevy.
All the models come with premium design features such as contemporary lighting such as daytime running lamps, light-emitting diode (LED) in LT and premier versions. The premier version also has LED tail lamps.
The lighter body structure and athletic build adds to the efficiency and driving dynamics. Chevy has used stronger steels to design the body structure and this has enabled the engineers to create the body structure using thinner components wherever possible.
The crash performance of the Malibu is comparably better with lower body weight.
The pricing of the 2016 Malibu starts at $22,500 including the destination charge of $875. This new model is a bit expensive than the 2015 model. The pricing of Malibu is comparatively lower than its competitors. It is expected to go on sale by the end of 2015.
