The competition among the online video streaming services is really upscale now and everyone is looking to get the better of the other competitors in order to improve its customer base. Hulu, one of the popular online video streaming service, has announced that it will offer ad-free streaming of movies and television shows for its members. Hulu wants to give a tough fight to already popular internet television and movie streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime video by making this offer.
Hulu subscribers can watch TV shows and movies without any commercial break by paying S11.99 per month. The company has been offering for-pay subscription option to its subscribers since 2010 with limited advertisements. But, with the new ad-free policy, subscribers can watch their favorite movies or TV shows online without any ad hindrance.
Members who are currently on the for-pay subscription offered by Hulu can upgrade to the ad free package by paying $4. This move puts the Hulu online video streaming service in a direct tug of war with the most popular Netflix video streaming service. Netflix also offers its subscribers with an ad free service.
Hulu has over 9 million subscribers whereas Netflix has over 40 million American subscribers. Amazon Prime offers ad free subscription services as well and people pay $99 a year to avail free shipping on their retail orders to enjoy Amazon Prime ad free.
Hulu has just entered into a tie up with cable network Epix to show their movies and TV shows through Hulu’s online service. Hulu will be continuing its ad-supported service as well and give its subscribers to choose the package that they want. Hulu is a joint venture by 21st Century Fox, Disney and Comcast’s NBC Universal.
Hulu’s CEO Mike Hopkins is of the opinion that a greater percentage of its existing members will be sticking on to the lower priced version than going for the ad-free $12 per month option.
The exception shows of Hulu kike “Agents of shield”, “Scandal”, “Once Upon A Time”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Grimm”, “New Girl” and “How to Get Away With Murder” will all be offered on the ad free version with ad content only. But the difference here will be that there will be a 15 second commercial shown at the start of the show and a 30 second commercial shown at the end of the program. No ads will surface in the middle of the show.
Hulu with its no commercial plan will stream some of the best TV content including the exclusive series and Hulu originals without any ad breaks.
